The SoftCom Connection Manager (SCM) provides a graphical user interface
to connect to the Internet using SoftCom's Global Dial-up Internet Access
Service. The user interface consists of a logon dialog box and a set
of property dialog boxes with which you can customize your connection
settings. It also maintains a phone book for the local access points.
Each Point of Presence (POP) provides a telephone number that allows
you to make a local call for access to online services.

After you install the SCM on your computer, you will see an icon on
your desktop for "SoftCom Dial-up Internet Access". Double-click on
the icon to start the program.

Type your username in the username field. Enter your password. If you
do not want to type your password every time, check the 'Save Password'
field. If you want to connect to the Internet automatically when you
run the Internet Explorer, check 'Connect automatically' field.
Before connecting, make sure you have set you
preferences, like phone number and dialing properties. Please click
on the 'Properties' button to set your preferences.

SCM's phone book lets you locate a local phone number among 2,900 Points
of Presence in 28 countries worldwide. To choose one of them, click
on the 'Phone Book' button. You can assign one phone number as primary
and one as backup. Make sure that the modem shown in 'Connect using'
field corresponds to a modem which is working.

To find a phone number for a local PoP, choose your Service Type, Country
or Region and State (in US only). Then the phone book will display the
phone numbers available for this location. Please choose one of the
phone numbers to connect to the Internet.
SoftCom is not responsible
for phone charges associated with your use of our services. Please verify
the location of the PoP you have selected. Common city names and area
codes are not clear indicators of the locality of the PoP to your calling
area. For additional assistance on determining these charges, please
contact your local phone company.
Click 'OK' button to
close the phone book.

Click on 'Dialing Properties' to set your dialing properties. If you
in a hotel or office, you might need to dial a prefix to access an outside
line, such 9 or 0. In this case, type "9W" or "0W" (without quotes)
in the 'For local calls, dial' field. If you are in a 10 digit calling
area you might need to set your 'Area Code Rules' and check for 'Dial
as a long distance call'.
After making sure your phone number and dialing properties set correctly,
close the properties window by click on 'OK' button. Now you are ready
to connect to the Internet. After making sure your phone number and
dialing properties are set correctly, close the properties window by
clicking on the 'OK' button. Now you are ready to connect to the Internet.
